Nola Diamantopoulos Exhibition Launches At Artereal Gallery In Rozelle
Artereal, a new art gallery in Rozelle, is opening its next exhibition,
Breathing Space, featuring the work of artist Nola Diamantopoulos.
The Breathing Space exhibition, which runs from October 5 to
28, is Nola’s first sculpture show. Much of Nola’s
current work centres on the exploration of the human figure and
face, with a particular focus on the female form.

In Breathing Space, her subjects look through us,
as if caught in another place. Although conscious, these figures
are not overly alert, yet nor are they inert. Instead, these figures
are off in their own world searching for something, caught in their
own thoughts and silences.
Nola introduces an auditory sensation in the exhibition, employing the sound
of the human breath accompanied by wind instruments to further explore the
concept of Breathing Space.
“ When you hear these breathing notes and see the transparent resin sculptures,
you feel far away and begin to use more than your eyes to experience these sculptural
works”, commented Nola.

Breathing Space will be the first part of a trilogy,
an exhibition that will continue at Artereal with “Inhale” in
2007 and “Exhale” in 2008.
Artereal’s focus is on representing works with international content
and heavy curatorial influence, with future exhibitions to feature photography,
painting, sculpture, drawing, video and other installation work.
Establishing Artereal and the whole site has been a lengthy process
and the two women hope that it is a space accessible to both art
lovers and the general public.
