NEW YORK Photographers launch new gallery

New York Photographers known for pushing the boundaries of their craft, Anthony Aziz and Sammy Cucher, will launch Rozelle’s Artereal Gallery this month with their dual exhibition, Synaptic Bliss and Interiors.

The show is emblematic of what curator Luisa Catanzaro is trying to achieve with the gallery, offering a diverse showcase of art forms and artists on the cutting edge of their profession.

Aziz+Cucher are pioneers in their field of digital photography and apart from some representation at the National Gallery they have no Australian presence to date so I felt it would be a compelling opening show,” Ms Catanzaro said.

This is the first Australian visit for Aziz+Cucher, who will exhibit works from the past few years. They will also premiere their new digital projection work.

“It is work we haven’t shown in Australia which takes in two series. The first, Interiors, was the experiment of merging architectural space with the human body creating rooms seemingly made out of human flesh,” Mr Aziz said.

The second is Synaptic Bliss, which is a digital journey combining photography with video projection.

“The images are about the ability of technology to heighten the senses and change perceptions. They are meant to work as a metaphor for a digital conscience,” he said.

“It is the ability of technology to move immediately from one place to another. You have the sensation that you are here and there at the same time, that you are both in and out of it.”

The exhibition runs from 24th March to 29th April at the Artereal Gallery
747 Darling Street,
Rozelle.
