SIMONE DOUGLAS ARTIST BIOGRAPHY
Born in Sydney, Australia.
Lives and works in New York City, USA.
Trained at the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW and at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney, Douglas currently holds the position of Director MFA Fine Arts at Parsons the New School for Design, The New School, NYC. She has also been on faculty for institutions including: Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney; the College of Fine Arts, University of NSW and the National Art School, Sydney.
Since the 1990’s her work has been an intense engagement with the Australian interior and as such she travels to Australia 2 – 3 times a year to make her work. Her work incorporates installation, photography, video and site specific works.
Douglas has an extensive international career and her works have been exhibited and published widely from Australia to Europe to China and New Zealand. Her works are held in the collection of the V&A Museum, London; the Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney and the National Gallery Of Victoria, Melbourne. In addition they have also been exhibited in solo exhibitions at the Photographers Gallery, London and curated into international exhibitions at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney and the Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney; The Ian Potter Center for Contemporary Art, Melbourne and The Australian Embassy, Washington DC among others. She was also a project director and curator for Picture Sydney: landmarks of a new generation at the Australian Museum; has been a guest scholar at Köln International School of Design; initiated the international art and design collective Conjecture and served on the Board of Directors at First Draft Gallery, Sydney.
In both 2010 and 2014, Simone Douglas' work has been shown as part of the Pingyao International Photography Festival, in China.
