| 13.02.06 Aziz+Cucher, New York Tanya Segger, reporter with the Inner City & Inner Western Courier, emailed Aziz+Cucher a few brief questions in relation to their Sydney exhibition in March 2006. Tanya: I notice you have exhibited in a number of high profile cities throughout the world, what attracted you to Sydney and (if I can be so specific) why the inner city area of Rozelle, where the new Artereal gallery is located? Tanya: Describe your work in general terms. A+C: We work in digital imaging and video, and we are known as pioneers in the field of digital art as we have been working in this realm for the past 15 years. In general, our work is an attempt to represent the human body and the natural world at a time when technology significantly influences the ways we perceive and undertstand reality. Tanya: What can people expect from Synaptic Bliss? What is its inspiration? A+C: Synaptic Bliss is about optical ecstasy. It depicts a world that is both inside and outside at the same time, and it represents both a macro and a micro view of nature. We want to offer the viewer a transporting experience through the use of exbuberent color and intricate pattern. Tanya: Is there a particular target audience for this particular exhibition? A+C: Our new video piece Synaptic Bliss – Etude is a variation of a much larger piece created for a New Media Festival in Paris in 2004. It is a three and a half minute video and sound projection that is meant to be experienced as a digital painting. It is somewhat hypnotic and mesmerizing and it takes the viewer on an aesthetic journey. |
