NOLA DIAMANTOPOLOUS BIOGRAPHY

Born Sydney, where she lives and works.

Nola Diamantopoulos’ first sculpture show, Breathing Space re-introduces her work to the Sydney public after a break following her inaugural painting exhibition at First Draft.

Diamantopoulos believes in the emotive power of narrative and largely follows her creative instinct as she moulds and massages her clay into figures. To Diamantopoulos drawing is an integral part to the creation of her sculpture, and vice versa. Further, experimentalism is part of her creative process and essential to the delivery of the exhibition pieces ultimately put on display.

Much of Diamantopoulos’ work centre’s on the exploration of the human figure and portraiture, with a particular focus on the female form.

In Breathing Space Nola is exploring a new dimension using resin as a medium.

The sculpture works featured in Breathing Space further explore the above themes and processes. In Breathing Space Diamantopoulos’ subjects look through us, as if caught in another place. Although conscious, these figures are not overly alert, nor are they inert. Instead, these figures are in their own world searching for something, caught in their own thoughts and silences.

Breathing Space is the first exhibition of a trilogy which Diamantopoulos will hold at Artereal, to be followed by Inhale and concluded with Exhale.
