This series of small sculptures explores the idea of body coverings for real, fictional or mythical creatures whose bodies differ from the acceptable stereotype. Some of these bodies might once have been included in freak shows, others are assigned characteristics with no consideration of how they might be covered for protection, let alone for show and celebration.
I intend these art works to be variously playful, grim, funny or rather sad, but always provocative. The small scale gives them a sense of mystery and vulnerability; there is an element of ambiguity - are they models for life-size garments or made for tiny people?
They are constructed from combinations of natural and man-made cast-off materials. I use a wide variety of textile and assembly techniques intuitively to achieve my conceptual goals.
